'll try to keep this short with bullet points to keep things simple.

  • VFX film worker in BC from for 3 years.
  • Being from US I can keep doing NAFTA permits indeffinetly
  • But with NAFTA being up in air with re-negotiations and my general want of permanency I want PR
  • Thing holding my back points wise was my college education not being recognized. Went to a small private tech school
  • Tried to get degree certified through University of Toronto
  • Reason on paperwork was "Not comparable to a recognized Canadian credential"
So now here I am living in BC with a decades work experience and last 3 years of it being in Canada, and I can't get enough points to qualify for express entry. The 100 or so points loss from not having the recognized degree leaves me short of ever reasonably getting an invite.

I was hoping to take advantage of the BC PNP Tech Pilot program. But that still means applying through express entry and points. Which will still leave me short, or is it possible the BC PNP Tech Pilot will "reach down" to grab me?

Are there alternative methods of PR I can look into?

Thank you for any help.

What exactly is your degree? Did you try WES or another ECA provider outside of UofT?

Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia. I'm an artist in the film industry. Its applicable to my field. Once which is high demand in Canada and under the BC PNP Tech Pilots program as a desirable field.

So not sure if its because of the degree or the small private school I went to and its accreditations or lack there of.

And would I even get different results if I went to a different certification center? Isn't it supposed to be standardized?
Thats money I'd rather not gamble wasting just to test and see..
