Hello guys,

I'm Canadian since Feb and have my Citizenship certificate in my hand but I haven't get my passport because I wanted to change my last name due to long last name . In other side I want to travel on July . How long takes If I change my name and get new Citizenship certificate ? is process time for Citizenship certificate replacement 5 months? Can I go outside of Canada with current name and after getting Citizenship certificate , apply for new passport?

What is your suggestion?

I am not an expert in this but to me this seems like a good game plan:
- Get your passport made and use it for travel
- go for a legal name change
- apply for amendment of name on citizen certificate
- apply for passport with name change proof and new citizenship certificate
----------
Only drawback is paying double for the passport otherwise the rest of the steps are the same.
when they say 5 moths it usually is approx. 5 months.

Yes, it takes approx 4 - 5 months to get a new citizenship certificate after name change. You also need to add about 4 - 6 weeks for the actual name change process and getting the name change certificate (in Ontario) and only then you can apply for citizenship certificate.
