Well, We finally got our official notice for the interview appointment (via email to both us - in both Mandarin and English) to take place at the Beijing offices on December 15th. Hopefully they'll issue COPR on the same day, in that "Med's" were done on December 29, 2013...

Does anyone know if landing must take place before Dec. 29th, without Med's having to be redone?

Happy for your good news! I met four wives at Beijing embassy when I went to collect my passport for visitor visa in 2011 and all four wives had interview that morning and passed so they all got COPR that afternoon.

Beijing embassy is really efficient now so I am sure your wife will get COPR the same day.

Great she will be able to join you here for Xmas. She has to land by the medical expiry date If VO doesn't extend it. But sometimes they extend it for one year and sometimes they ask if you can make it by medical expiry date.

I read one applicant got phone call being asked if she can make it , she hesitated then Her VO officer said that's alright if you can't but you have to do part of medical again. But it could delay for Decision Made.

Good luck for interview and get COPR the same day

Cheers

Things will go fine I'm sure,

We are now just sitting around waiting for the PR card so we can apply to get a learner drivers license for my wife since we didn't bother getting her one in China.

I find it a little silly that the COPR doesn't work for ID and foreign passports are not ok for primary ID but such is our wonderful system.

yeah, just another hoop to jump thru 8) - Mine has a Chinese driver's license.., but I imagine she'll be retested here, even though I wasn't after moving here from the US.
Driving in China is a completely different beast than here of course - totally wild in fact (as I'm sure you know) but somehow more "organic" - for lack of a better term. I think the biggest adjustment for a Chinese driver here would be getting accustomed to the intense orderliness.., and the fact that pedestrians have the right of way!

I picked up my chinese drivers license as well while I was there, the test was amusing. Whenever we got new western employees we always had to go over road safety cause the sissys were afraid to cross the road.

I was one of the annoying foreigners that always took my right of way.

Congratulations.
Didn't know that ECAS showed status of PR card.
It took a good 8 weeks for us to get it consistent to some blog reports so be patient.
On the other hand, make sure you apply for OHIP early.. Some report that you can start counting towards the 3 month moratorium from date you get approved not land.. Either way doesn't hurt to get things out of the to do list sooner

I already applied to add her to my BC MSP (our version of OHIP)

I must say that getting accepted ID for anything in this country seems to be a very big pain in the ass..

Without a PR card we cant get her a learners drivers license... It all seems very stupid and bureaucratic. It reminds me of all those sweet wonderful Chinese paper pushing government offices. At any rate it does seem to be a bit of a procedural mistake that the CoPR doesn't count for anything as ID.....

I wouldn't be buying those plane tickets for a holiday just yet, my status is also still in process.

I was hoping to buy wifey a trip to the Caribbean for just after christmas but that is obviously not going to happen :(

:) Well - we ventured a gamble and bought the plane ticket back on Nov. 28th for a Christmas Day flight - based on my feeling that we had a slight edge on being approved (additional documentation of all the usual supporting evidence & most-of-all, a wife who was ready and determined to answer anything and everything - and I add, doing so with a pleasant attitude in the face of what has become, I gather, typical condescension and rudeness coming from a battery of [guilty until proven innocent] suspicious questioning)

She got it! The golden ticket from the Beijing Embassy. They made her sweat it out tho. Had an early Monday morning (approx. 1.5 hour) interview, and was told to come back at 3pm for the results. At 3pm she returned and was told, no result, come back Tuesday at 3pm. They seemingly don't want anyone to think this is a cakewalk. And they've obviously made it thus. I know I'm sounding less than humble here - We're actually relieved and will celebrate soon, but my question to the CIC would be, 'Is this really how we Canadians want to be represented abroad?' - There's got to be a kinder/gentler way to flush-out so-called fake marriages. Various ladies' interview results, coming after my wife's, weren't as lucky, and were refused and heartbroken.. Peoples lives are seriously deeply affected by these events. I suggest alternative reassessments, or at the very least, an option to re-interview - [prior to the long and drawn out appeals process] - which would actually be more economical for all concerns.

That said, I'm glad it's done, Thankful for all the support here! And wish everyone the best of luck, and a happy outcome.
Thank you, thank you!

all the best
