From what you say, you have already applied for her citizenship. Why do you think you must do it again?
hi Leon, i'm just a bit confused though. so if ever i got my PR visa, i will go straight to the embassy to get her passport, aside from bringing the passport application what else should i bring? thank you very much for your reply. :)

The processing time for a citizenship card right now is 6 months if you apply in Canada and around 9 if you apply through an embassy. If you get the visa for you before you get the citizenship card for your child, you can go to the embassy and apply for her temporary passport so you can all go together. Otherwise, if you get the citizenship card for her first, you can apply for a regular child passport for her.

Initial screening of application was done in Embassy Manila, an immigration officer phoned me upon receiving my child's application and asked me to provide all of these supporting documents before they forwarded my application to Ontario, Canada. We already have her UCI# and is already in process on e-cas.
Hi G. Ysabbelle.. how about if my husband (canadian citizen) applied for our child's application for citizenship certificate in Canada, because he is in Canada. And i am with our daughter here in the Philippines. If i apply for my child's temporary passport in Canadian MEbassy in Manila do you think they will give me also the UCI? thanks. because i noticed we have the same situation. are you also still waiting for your PR visa? :)

Seems like you guys can answer anything, so here's mine:

I'm trying to figure out if the new 2009 citizenship rules apply to me. My father was born in Canada in 1943, moved to the US and was naturalized as a US citizen sometime in the 50's, forcing him to give up citizenship in Canada. Since he was a minor at the time, I'm fairly certain the new rules apply to him and he would get retroactive citizenship, but he lives in the US and has no interest.

I was born in the US in 1969. I've been living and working in Canada for the past few years on work permits, and I'm wondering if he would have to reclaim his citizenship first for the law to apply to me. Technically he wasn't a citizen when I was born. But under the new law, technically he was. Do you know how that would work?

Thanks!

The only way to find out is really to apply and see what happens. However, from what I know about the new law, when citizenship was restored to people who lost it, it does not extend to their children. You see, your father was a citizen until the 50's when he gave it up and with the new law in 2009, he became one again so he was not actually a citizen when you were born.

If you want to try it anyway, apply for proof of citizenship here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certif.asp You would need a copy of your fathers birth certificate to show that he was born in Canada as well as a copy of your own to show that he is your father plus anything else they say you need.

To register your child for citizenship, go here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof-how.asp and follow the instructions to apply.

There is no point in registering your marriage with immigration. They really do not care if you are married or not. If you want to sponsor your husband for permanent residency, as you are not living in Canada at the moment, you would have to show some proof of your intentions to move to Canada when he gets his PR.

Hi there. can somebody help me with this. may baby was born outside canada with canadian father. my husband applied for our child's canadian citizenshhip in canada to be able get her travel document like passport while im waiting for my PR visa so we could travel together. my question is, do i still need to apply my child's citizenship here at canadaian embassy?im just confused.
no need to apply her for citizenship in your country. btw, what country are you from? my daughter was born outside of canada, specificallly in Manila, I tried applying her for citizenship in manila before bec I knew she was eligible. unfortunately, it may take up to a yera or year and a half to have it processed in manila and they kept asking me for more docs everytime I went to the embassy. so i got fed up, got my daughter a canadian tourist visa and when we got here i immediately applied for her citizenship. all they asked was a birth cert, an ID, passport photos and I threw in a couple of more docs such as her baptismal cert and school registration just for identity purposes. After a month of processing, I had her citizenship card. :)

Hello guys,
i called CIC again today, they said my baby's certificate of citizenship has been forwarded to case specialist, which could take more than 18 month to process.
which also means total processing time could be more than 2 years for my case.
could anyone help me what I can do about it? withdraw and reapply?
could anyone also let me know what impact i have to face with this delaying (for example, OHIP card? child benefit and others)
PLEASE HELP ME, THANKS

If you end up with a long wait for the citizenship certificate for your baby, at least you can get a temporary passport at the embassy just because you have applied so you do not have to wait if you want to go back to Canada.
