Changes to work situation

My Husband has worked for a Canadian company for a year and a half under a temporary work permit with an LMIA, we have just started to apply for our Permanent residency but today he was laid off form the company. We're does this leave us now, will he have to return home?

He can remain in Canada as long as his work permit is valid. However in order to start working for a new employer, he will need a new LMIA and a new work permit.
