CEC - August 2014 application

Hi All,

I'm August 2014 CEC applicant. I've finished Medicals along with my Dependent Spouse & after paying RPRF, I've now received 'Ready for Visa' email (PPR). Right now, I'm in my home country (India) & have heard on this forum that usually Landing Visa issued on Passport is valid for 1 year from Date of Medical (25 April 2016, in my case).

Due to some personal family constraints, it may be difficult for me to land in Canada with my spouse before 25 April 2017. So, is there any way we can request CIC while sending passports (through email or post) to grant us extended Landing Visa beyond April 2017, possibly till Dec 2017 ?

Please guide me on most legal & standard approach in this regard.

Maybe you can email cpc ottawa explaining your situation and see what they have to say.

I have seen many immigrants landing and staying in Canada till they get PR Cards (approx 2 months from landing) and then returning back to their country and returning back when they are ready to settle. Is that not an option for you?

We decided to do it today, before the weekend travelers rush the borders. So we officially landed as of today.
American Site easy as pie, and friendly, Canadian Border, i mean sorry, i dont want a kiss on the cheeks or so, but to be pointed at with two fingers and called over with: You two over there, come here.
Really????
I've heard this same scenario from others as well. The American side is friendly and easy, the Canadian side is... well... not so much. Which fits with my whole experience with Canadian immigration so far. :(

Not that it matters in my case. I can only dream of doing the flagpole and being treated rudely by Canadian border officials. I'm an August 13 applicant still waiting with no end in sight. File has been complete for a while but no decision made, nothing. Meantime many Sept and Oct applicants are getting PR ahead of me. Really thinking I will never be processed.

They just don't want to eliminate backlog(Old CEC, Old PNP……) so that there is no excuse why express entry is not express at all.

Trust me, Express Entry is still express compared to the hopeless eternity of CEC. One of my work colleagues applied through EE in August 2015 -- one full year AFTER I applied through CEC in August 2014 -- and she got her PR in December 2015. Meanwhile I'm still waiting 6 months AFTER she landed, even though I applied one full year BEFORE she did. There is no fairness, there is no justice, there is no hope if you're waiting in CEC.

Assuming you received RPRF already (passed eligibility), why stressing about landing? What would it matter if it took another 2 years? You are already in Canada and can keep renewing work permit indefinitely.

In my industry, employers are offered something like a 40% tax incentive for hiring permanent residents or citizens. This puts me at a MASSIVE disadvantage when it comes to competing for jobs. I found this out the hard way after finishing my last contract earlier this year. I actually have interest from employers, but they say they can't hire me until I have PR. Meanwhile, many colleagues who applied under EE (far later than I applied under CEC) already have their PR and are snapping up jobs while I sit around unemployed waiting forever for PR that seems like it will never come. Now do you understand why I'm stressed?

Not Really.
for a Family this can be stressful.
1) RPRF does not mean PR is guaranteed. Till PPR or Decision made nothing can be said for sure.
2) WP + visa per person is 350$ (I know 100$ is non refundable for WP). Everybody cant afford this
3) Usually WP processing takes 2-3 months. this year it was >4 months, forcing people to be on Implied status.
In Implied Status you and your dependants are not elegible for OHIP, EI, Chid Benefits. You need a valid Work Permit for this.
4) You cannot plan long term travel as you dont want to cause delays in case CIC requests something when you are away (Changing Visa offices takes months)
5) You cannot take big decisions like buying a House, etc as your status is not confirmed.
6) Many companies dont recruit ppl with Work Permits
7) If PR processing keeps delaying, you might need to do a Medical, PCC , RCMP, Language test all over again. Language test and Medicals are Expensive.
8 ) If you leave Canada during processing you will be asked for a new PCC. Some countries take months to provide you with PCC.

So you see, theres lots of things to stress about.
