Hi,

Applicable for citizens of India:

To know more about studying in Canada:
High Commission of Canada in India official website: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/india-inde/index.aspx

The High Commission of Canada in New Delhi has made arrangements with VFS Global Services to provide convenient visa application services for temporary resident visas, study permits and work permits by way of a Visa Application Centre (VAC)- (www.vfs-canada.co.in)

On VFS site, you can find 3 student visa/ Study permit categories..under which citizens of India can apply:

To know more; see the official checklists of various categories:

University: http://www.vfs-canada.co.in/pdf/Delhi_study_permit_eng.pdf
SPP: http://www.vfs-canada.co.in/pdf/Student_Partners_Program_09022013.pdf
Generic: http://www.vfs-canada.co.in/pdf/study_permit_20-09-2012.pdf

As the name suggests: University category is exclusive for those applying for studies in any of the Canadian public universities.
However, if a first time study permit applicant from India, wishes to apply in 1 of the 3 universities participating under SPP India, then the applicant can apply under SPP even though he/she is applying to a university.
Here's the list of educational institutes participating in SPP:
http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/india-inde/visas/spp-ppe.aspx?lang=eng
Applicants are allowed to apply only once under SPP.

General or Generic category are for the first time applicants either applying to all other colleges, those are not participating under SPP or not Unviersity and also for previously rejected, repeat applicants to any of the colleges (even those applying to the colleges participating under SPP).

Most Indian students, apply for PG cert./diploma courses in Business or related fields, and you should get admission to most of these college PG business programs for Sept. 2013 intake, provided you apply soon. However most skilled trades, career oriented practical diplomas/certificates are most probably full by now, and you will have to apply for the Sept. 2014 intake.

To apply under SPP, go through the college websites, participating in SPP, and select an appropriate program.

To see list of ALL recognized Canadian educational institutes eligible for OCWP+PGWP, listed according to province:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp

To know more about Student work permits in Canada visit: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp

To know more about other student immigration programs see latest APRIL 2013 update on page 6 (mid level) of this thread:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/various-immigration-programmes-for-international-students-in-canada-t100908.75.html

Hope it helps.
