Can I travel outside Canada?

Hello Seniors and Experts,

I have applied for my immigration under family class- Outland type (despite I live in Canada)

I am on a LMO based work permit in Canada which expires in Decmber 2015. I applied for my PR in April 2014 and my wife, who lives with me, is sponsoring me.

Our file has been approved for sponsorship from Mississuaga and has been transferred to New Delhi.

Now while we wait for my PR, I need to make a 3 weeks trip to my home country India due to some urgent reason.

My question is that is it okay to travel outside Canada while my PR application is under process (outland)??? Is there any chance of getting my entry denied when I return to Canada???

I have heard that you can not leave the country if you apply Inland type but for putland type it is okay to travel out of Canda while your file is under process.

Can you please confirm if this is correct and there are no risks involved ???

Many thanks for your advise

Satbeer

You can leave to go home no problem. You are correct in that inland, it is advised NOT to leave, but you've chosen outland, which means it's okay to leave. In fact, you are a "visitor" in Canada during this process so it is expected you either need to leave to renew the 6-month visitor visa, or apply for an extension. It is up to the border officer once you try to come again for another "visit" but if you provide a copy of your marriage certificate and application package along with proof of ties back home, they should not deny you re-entry!

I just read you're on a work visa till December 2015, yeah you'll have no problems then :)

Thank you JessNess for your prompt reply.

Actually, I am not on a visitor visa, I am in LMO based work permit which expires December 2015. So basically I do not need any extension while coming back. I have entry visa valid till december 2015.

there probably wasn't anything specific jess "did", except provide a clear and complete application. Applications being processed in Ottawa are seeing super speedy processing right now. Currently March, April and May US applicants with applications in Ottawa are getting Decision Made and landing. No-one knows what jump started this sudden wave of approvals. 2014 Manila applicants are also experiencing a quicker than posted processing time.

Hi,

This is insane.

Why is the CIC having those misleading processing times ppsted on their website then???

I chose to apply through outside Canada route despite of being eligible to go with In-Canada route after looking at the processing times.

In-Canada is still showig as of today at total of 20 months waiting and my home country has 13 months so I went with outside canada route.

Very unfair CIC

With Inland if your file was to get transfered to a local office you could be waiting 3 years?

You do realize that Ottawa is not inland, right? Ottawa is the outland office that takes care of US applicants.

these are statistics collected yearly and put up on the website. While they may not be accurate for TODAY'S processing, they were accurate at one point as they are based on applications from when the information was collected in 2013. At some point, CIC will update this information based on the statistics found in 2014. It's not misleading, it's just outdated.
