You would have to contact the airlines you are flying with. Each airlines have their own rules and restrictions. To my knowledge pets are not allowed to travel with the passengers on board. They need to go through special screening, examination etc. and usually they are transported as cargo. Means, Pets/animals travel on cargo freight by air or sea. I know Emirates offer Sky Cargo for the animals. My neighbour who were from Portugal living in Sydney, Australia, had brought their Labrador from Lisbon to Sydney took almost 3 months and cost them 8,000 AUD Approx excluding the $$$ on the amount of paperwork/document they had to go through. The Lab did arrive safely but it put lots of fear/stress on her. As a result she became ill and the owners had to spend heaps more on her VET Bills. Decide wisely. Follow the links below and read carefully.

Ultimately cost apart which should not as per previous post be underestimated the OP should also consider their longer term plans i.e. how long is their study permit, long enough for example to get a 3 year PGWP so potentially 5 years in the country. Long term aim for something more permanent such a PR ?

Always difficult decision where pets are concerned and for some people cost is irrelevant but has to be balanced against the potential length of stay let alone practical considerations on who will look after the dog whilst at college or work plus variations in costs for vet visits, again most people would pay whatever for their pet.
