Can I change my marital status?

I am a Filipino Citizen and my husband and I have separated for more than 3 years already (since 2014) though we have not applied for an annulment since it is costly and did not process legal separation yet. I have not seen him for all those years. When I processed for my Study Visa last year, October 2016, I put MARRIED as my Marital Status because I was afraid that if I put Legally Separated, I can't support it with evidence.

Now that I will be processing my Post Graduate Work Permit, I would like to put my real Marital Status which is Separated because I don't want him to have anything to do with my life here in Canada.

Will this give me trouble with the visa officer? What documents should I present? Is it legal for me to put Separated in all of my incoming forms and documents in the future? Will this affect my status here in Canada?

Hope someone will enlighten me with answers.

Thank you very much!
