Can I apply under two different categories at the same time?

Hi everyone and thanks for your kind help in advance.

I had applied for FSW 2014 (NOC 5125) but my application was returned to me. I am currently in Express Entry pool for FSW 2015. I have also recently noticed that there is a considerable chance I qualify for applying under Self-Employed category as well. EE is online as you know, and you have to mail your documents for SE application. I am planning to scan all the documents I have ready from the returned FSW 2014 application, just in case I get an Invitation to Apply under EE, and then send the same via snail mail for SE application to CIC.

Do you think that's a good plan? And more importantly, am I allowed to apply under two different categories simultaneously?

There are no rules against it. Before express entry, there were people who applied under both FSW and CEC or FSW and PNP or some other immigration classes. Basically both applications will roll until you get to a certain stage they may ask you to withdraw one for the other to go forward.
