I am software engineer at USA with H1B visa.
My occupation is not on the following list:

Can I apply for Canada green card?

Thanks.

No but if you don't mind living in AB, you can apply for AINP, see http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/campaigns/h1b.html

Thanks. The 7th step on "How to Apply" in the following link:

http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrate/srsvisaholder.html

Says:

7. # If the Candidate is approved as a Provincial Nominee and they find employment in their field in Alberta, the AINP may be able to issue a letter of support that would help the Candidate start working in Alberta right away, prior to their application for permanent residence with CIC being finalised.

My understanding is:

After a Candidate becomes Provincial Nominee, he/she must find a job in Alberta in order to apply for permanent residence with CIC. If the Candidate can not find a job in Alberta, he/she can not apply for
permanent residence in Canada. Am I right?

Thanks again.

Your understanding is wrong. This is for people who have been nominated and want to start working in Alberta right away instead of waiting for their application for permanent residency to be finalized.

On the contrary, you must find a job first to be eligible for the said scheme. First look for an employer willing to offer you a full time/permanent job. Then apply for immigration from there.

I see. So I can get the permanent residency first. Then try to find a job in Alberta, right?

Thanks.

If you apply for the Alberta program, you sign a statement saying you intend to settle in AB. You have to land in AB and should try to settle there. If you have problems in AB but get an offer from somewhere else, nobody will blame you for leaving.

Yes, where it's nice and warm and where all the bums live and you can't drive through town without ending up with a squeegee boy on your windshield :p
