Can I apply for an OWP while cic do my background check

Hi,

I applied inland and was told I am eligible to apply for Permanent residency.
Can I apply for my OWP while my background and medical checks are in progress?

Yes, you certainly can. However, it will take 4 months to process, so you may find that you don't end up receiving it too far ahead of actually getting your PR. If you'd like to pay the $255 and apply, though, you are eligible to.

Thanks for your reply. If I don't apply for the OWP when my PR arrives will I need to apply for a work permit then or can I stsrt working as soon as I get my PR? The reason I ask is money is very tight st the moment and I don't want to pay 255 if my pr and OWP will arrive approx. The same time. Thanks

You don’t need the OWP once you have PR. Your PR grants you the ability to work automatically
