Hi,

My friend came to Canada last month in Point system. Got his PR, Applied for SIN, Health card, etc...
He got an offer to work in Boston, MA now. I am not sure if there are any issues accepting this offer.

Has any one done this? Can he work in USA as soon he gets the PR? Where would he pay the taxes? If he does not pay the taxes in Canada, would there be a problem in obtaining citizenship? I found from a reply on another topic that a person who comes here in PR should be physically present for 2 years out of the first 5 years.. Other than that, are there any issues in working in USA?

Thanks for your time.

Regards,
Shiyam

no one can stop him from working in the US. He does however need to be in canada for 2 years out of the first 5 years to keep his PR. He also needs to make sure that if he tries to go into canada say in his 4th year, that he can make up 2 years of living in canada before his first 5 years are up (including previous stay within the rules, etc).

As for taxes, someone else should reply.

For the income earned in USA he need to just declare in his return in Canada as all PR's have to declare their World Income. However no TAXES are to be paid in Canada on such income.

He can go to USA at any time to work but the time spent in USA would not be counted towards the days spent in Canada. 2/5 is must to maintain PR status.
