Hi everybody,

We have received a request from Buffalo for a police certificate from Brazil.

We have read http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/central-south-amer/brazil.asp but the sound of the letter was that ONLY a federal one was necessary. Is this the case? What is your experience?

Can anyone shed some light on the process / challenges for someone to acquire these certificates from outside Brazil?

Thanks,

-kb

Hi!

My husband is from Brazil, and he got these certificates:

policia federal - Federal Police
justiça federal - Federal Justice
justiça de goias - The State where he lives
tribunal de justiça de sao paulo - The state where he used to live

Basically you need to provide a certificate for Federal police, federal justice and the states where you have lived. He obtained all of them throught the web, which is nice because you can just print them right then and there. We had to get them translated by an acredited person into english before sending them. I believe there should be a link somewhere on the CIC page, where they explain the Brazil specific requirements.

I hope this helps!

Oh sorry, I forgot to say, my husband is here with me so we did it all through the web.

See exactly which one your are missing, against all the ones they actually ask for.

Thanks.

We're actually missing all of them -- but the request suggested that a "federal" certificate was preferable -- no mention of state/local certificates.

We tried getting some of them online (and succeeded), but also weren't sure that the online ones would be acceptable. Do you have a translator that you like and didn't charge huge $$?

We live in Montreal, and through the Brazilian consulate we got the name of a gentleman who did translations.
I'm not sure where you guys are at, but perhaps the consulate can help you, if not any brazilian or portuguese organization may be able to assist. The price was about $30-$35 per document, but because we did a few at the same time the guy gave us a bit of a break.

There didn't seem to be an issue with the online certificates, as they are no different if you obtain them from the ministries or the police there. In many ways brazil seems a little bit more advanced than we are here!

Let me know how it goes!

If you could e-mail me his info, we have no problem dealing with someone away from where we are (British Columbia).

The only quote I have so far is a minimum of $150 (because we need it certified).

I agree that Brazil is definitely more advanced in this aspect than both the US and Canada... the FBI is currently taking 6-8 weeks to return criminal record checks from there!

So going back to this subject, my husband got an email from the consulate this week asking for different police certificates than the ones we had initially provided. He obtained the original ones online from the "Tribunal de Justicia" websites, and what they were requesting were the actual police certificates from SSP (Secretaria de segurança publica) or other state police offices, so we have had to run around to try and get these which is a bit difficult since he is in Canada and those certificates you have to get in person. Long story short we managed, but we wanted to share this in case you are not in Brasil and obtained them online, because chances are they may ask you for the paper originals from the police.

Just to mention the one you get online from "Policia federal" is fine, as we also submitted that.

Good luck and let us know if you'd had something like this happen too!

So i just want ask a question just so i understand. We need to send in 3 police checks, like you guys said before. I found all 3 online, but ccbrasil, your saying that the Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais that i printed online probably wont be ok. I will need to actually get a printed copy from brasil?

just as some background on me, i am the applicant and i am in canada so i applied inland. I'm just asking so i can get prepared for when they ask.

Hi everyone,

I am in the process to have my PR approved as a common-law partner, and at this point they even asked me the medical exams already. But a couple days ago I received an email from CIC requesting ORIGINAL copies of the Police Certificate, as follow:

> Police Certificate: Provide an original police clearance certificate from Brazil. This must be received at this office by: 02/07/2014

The thing is: by my understanding, nowadays all those Police Certificates in Brazil are got directly from their website. But the government of Canada is stating that I need the original one. But I don't know WHICH ONE would be the original one, and how to request those in Brazil.

Accessing the website (cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/central-south-amer/brazil.asp) you can see that it is required those three documents:

1. A Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais, issued by the federal police. Consult their website at dpf.gov.br for instructions.
2. A Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais, issued by the state authority. Contact the state authority directly, using the local directory for assistance.
3. A Certidão de Distribuição Cíveis e Criminais, issued by the Federal Ministry of Justice. Contact the local justice department for instructions or consult justicafederal.gov.br.

I sent all of those, but they are still asking for the original one. So, for those who had face that before, how did you solve that problem? Did you provided AN EXTRA ONE, or did you provided all those 3 documents all over again, but in a different format?

Can you please help me?
Thanks a lot for your time!
