No application forms or photos required. Rather keep it simple and slim. I think they can trace from your UCI no. what stage your PR application is in.

Here's what I took and handed over.
1. PNP nomination letter
2. Work Permit support letter
3. Paystubs to prove your current employment (Precautionary Document)
4. A simple letter from your employer stating that you are currently employed (Precautionary Document)
5. Bank statements showing sufficent balance in your account (Precautionary Document)
6. Original Offer Letter from employer...they do read this one.

Questions from CBSA officer:
1. Does your offer have an end date? Nope..
2. Have you tried applying to CIC website? I told yes, and that they rejected due to employer name on PNP letter..and that it was not clear on CIC site. She said she has heard of such cases...and its fine.
3 .Why are you applying so early? My employer needs assurance for his planning purpose.
4. We can only give 1 year extension, are you OK with it? Obviously!

I also got a OWP for my spouse. They ask you to sit for 20mins till they feed it into the system and print out. So if the Q&A goes fine, you are pretty much in the clear.
It actually seems like it would be easier to apply this way than doing it on line. The problem with doing any applications with CIC is that you have to try to read their mind to know what boxes to check. And depending on who looks at your application they may or may not decline you for just checking the wrong box. I also think it is easier for them to decline you as they are only looking at an application and don't have the actual person in front of them.

Seems to me that by actually going to get your WP approved in person at the border then the CIC officer can ask any questions and word them better than when you have to fill out an application. You don't get to actually talk to the person deciding on you WP when you apply on line or by sending in a paper application.

I also think its a good idea to have as much documentation as you can. Better to be over prepared than to not have something when they ask for it.

The downside is that it will take up a whole day to drive there and back and have to wait in what can sometimes be a 3 hour lined up at the border closest to us. But, not having to wait for weeks and hope that we checked the right boxes will be worth the day.

When I went to Peace Arch on Friday evening at 6pm...I was the only one. Travel time was 40mins from Vancouver. Was back home with a new WP by 7.30pm.
But yes, as opposed to the confusion of forms and tick marks, border wait is much better. When I was rejected for BOWP, I didnt really have the intention for BOWP, I was fine with Closed WP. It was the stupid tool that guided me to apply for BOWP. Had they asked the question "Is your employer name on the PNP letter? If yes, apply for a Closed WP".

Totally mbgirlfriend! It seems way easier this way. I spoke with my wife already and we'll just go to the border in a couple weekends (for me is a 4 hour trip, but still worth it).

Only doubt I have right now is about the "support letter" from the province. Everybody that mentions that are from BC. Does Alberta (AINP) gives one as well? Does anybody know if they do? Because then that would be the one document I'm missing!

I am not really sure about this either because my boyfriend has a MPNP nomination. He is just going to send the PNP an email or call them and ask them for one. If they say that he doesn't need one and that the PNP approval letter is ok then he will go without one. I think some provinces need one and some don't. I am not sure how they determine this.

Are you doing the flagpole thing? Or submitting online? Or still deciding?

I'm pretty much decided already on taking a little road trip.

OK So I called the AINP office, and I had a conversation with a really nice lady.

So............. AINP does NOT give a support letter, the certificate should be fine. Sometimes, the federal government will ask you for that with a written request, and then you send that to the AINP and they will issue you one, but that's just a rare scenario.

And like I've said plenty of times, but now officially confirmed, with these new certificates you can apply for a BOWP (After you receive your Aor), or for a closed one with you nomination only.

Time to arrange a trip to Yellowstone National Park :)

yeah that the thing i was said, you are absolutly right (with these new certificates you can apply for a BOWP (After you receive your Aor), or for a closed one with you nomination only.) because new ainp certificates says employment restriction - NO

Just called MPNP office to ask about WP for my boyfriend who does not have an AOR yet. This is what I was told

-First request a Letter of Employment from employer if you are already working. This must state position and if you are considered permanent and full time.

-Then email the LOE and a copy of current WP to PNP office. Let them know in the email that you are requesting a support letter for a work permit. If you are on a IEC vias (no implied status) let them know so they will be more prompt on your request.

-She said they then contact the employer to get some kind of number from them (can't remember what the number was but I think its a number business get that has to do with CRA and is to let PNP know that you are working for an employer who does things according to labour laws)

-Once they have that number they will send out the Support Letter. She said it would should only take a few days to get the support letter.

-With the support letter you can either apply on line or at the border. She said that with the PNP support letter my boyfriend will get an employer specific WP (so a closed WP).

She seemed to know exactly what she was talking about and answered questions that I didn't even have to ask. Like she had been doing her job for a long time and knew all the information that would be needed.

HI everyone,

Please help me.... I was on a closed work permit and was a provincial nominee of Saskatchewan. MY SINP will expire on 18 jan 2015 and my work permit expired on 13 Jan 2015. I am in restoration period now. I have also my PR in process and got my file number and finished medicals. I applied for BOWP november last and yesterday i got letter from them saying that its rejected. what are my options now.... will i be able to reapply for a closed work permit with SINP basis. Will this affect my PR application...

Can any one help me on what to do next......Thank you very much.....
As far as I know, You can only apply Open WP if you received your file # and at the same time you have Nomination Cert from AINP otherwise, you are not qualified
