BOGOTA Visa Office 2012 applicants

Hey spetroun, sorry just saw your other post that I missed before. I'm from Vancouver, and I'm living with my husband in Bogota, and he was born and raised here in Bogota. It would be amazing to be back next summer, because winters can be a little dark and depressing sometimes if your not used to it haha. The climate in Bogota is kind of similar to Vancouver, but a lot more rain and can get a lot colder. I'm curious To see how he'll handle it hehe!

I am so excited and happy to write that my husband's passport was requested today!!! I am amazed at the speed. Good luck to everyone else. Does anyone know how long it will take to get his passport back? We will be visiting Canada in December but won't be moving until July or August as we need to finish contracts, etc. Should he apply for his residency card in December or wait until July? Thank you!

I recieved a second email from immigration. My wife was previously married and I could swear I sent them the divorce papers from her previous spouse but then maybe I didn't. Can my wife go to the notary office to get a copy of the divorce papers or does she need to go to the official person who performed the divorce proceedings? The email stated divorce certificate. Is it a 1 page certificate or multiple pages? Thanks.

They are asking for the divorce decree/certificate which is 1 or 2 pages. They do not want the divorce papers which are over 20 pages. Does anybody know where to get a divorce decree/certificate in Colombia? The notary office are confused. I sent immigration the divorce papers and that was not good enough.

I am curious if anyone has gone to the Bogota office to receive their visa in person. My wife is in Ecuador and she was sent the Request for Passport. However, DHL wouldn't fill out a pre-paid waybill and she doesn't have an account with Fedex.

Does anyone know if it is easier/faster to go in person to the Bogota office?

We mailed it with Deprisa to the Embassy but we were not given the option to have it mailed back to us. The email said we had to come to the office to get it with a valid piece of ID.

Bolt- It definitely feels good to be at the end of the process. Congrats! Won't be long now.

Cancol- No idea. I was totally caught by surprise when we got the email. I was thinking maybe February if all went well. We actually even asked to delay the medicals deadline by a month and sent them in August instead of July because we were going to be travelling out of the country and my husband's military card had been stolen and was being replaced.

I'd like to think super careful attention to filling out the application and supporting documents, and including a ton of pictures, emails, letters from friends and family, etc., helped, but maybe in the end it was just luck. We actually can't even go to Canada until July 2014 because of work/school contracts but it's nice to know the answer and possibility. Sorry I don't have a more magical answer. Good luck! Cancol, happy to answer any questions. We are living in Colombia and have been married since December 2012, dating since August 2008. Not sure if it makes a difference or not but he has a tourist Visa to Canada and has visited three times.
