I would appreciate if you could give me recommendations on the best telephone and internet service providers in Canada, specifically in Manitoba.
I am planning to rent an apartment/condominium when we move to Canada. I have no idea which technology is used in terms of telephone and internet, like if the norm is cable or fiber broadband, etc. Which companies provide the best offers and customer support.
Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Depending on where you live, Internet service is available over Fiber, cable or DSL. The same goes for TV services (except where its satellite service instead of DSL).

If you will be renting an apartment, your choice may be limited by any exclusive deal the apartment owner may have signed with one or more of the major communications companies. Also, not all technologies will be available in apartment buildings, as it will largely depend on the infrastructure that is available.

Wind and Mobilicity both have some great plans available right now. If you are looking for broader coverage and/or a more reliable network, look at Fido

Wind has a $35 plan with unlimited calling, unlimited messaging and unlimited data. Also, if you negotiate with customer service, they can always drop the price further.

The catch is the network coverage area is limited as compared to other carriers.

Unlimited plans are very common in the US and hopefully will become more so in Canada as well.

Additionally, Wind and Mobilicity are on AWS network, which means not all international phones will be compatible. Also both are still offering HSPA (3G) data services while other providers are offering LTE (4G) data network, hence the low prices.
