5 years straight. It is a grant they give you (electronic version). No passport to be sent and no visa stamping. Immigration validates your entry and exit electronically. First activation has to be within the date mentioned i.e based on medicals or PCC.
What are the tax consequences of getting an Australian PR ? Do you file a tax return for income made outside of Australia ?

I am not sure about the answer. I expect them to have a double taxation agreement similar to lines of what UK has with US. If you pay tax in one country for an income there is no need to pay tax for that income in another country. As I said I am not sure about this answer.

Wow, this is great. Thanks @Jairichi. It's important to keep an open mind about different countries and not get hung up about one place. All my international colleagues in the US are so OBSESSED about their green card, it's almost pathetic. Just with a little soul searching several other options seem equally interesting.

You are welcome deadbird. Glad I could give you some ideas. Yes, we were in US and understood that it is a long shot (10 years) to get a GC as we are from India. My brother is a GC holder and we would love to be near him and his family. Moved to UK and found that it takes 5 years to be eligible to apply for one and at the time of applying need to get a letter from employer for continuity of job. In addition, UK immigration rules change a lot. Decided not to wait anymore and live in uncertainity as we are getting older. Applied for AUS PR and Canadian PR. Got AUS PR and now waiting for an invite for Canadian PR with 456 points (just as a backup).

Good luck with your immigration plans.

Ouch, but it is pretty expensive though. Around 3000 USD ?? Is this correct ?
I did look at the ozzie option myself, but my occupation wasn't of any interest to neither federal nor state governments. As far as I know, Australian PR is the most expensive in the world, but they make a better job of immigration processing. I remember reading something like they assign you an immigration agent, and they even provide the agent's contact information so you can directly email or call them.

Canadian EE is adopted from Aus & NZ PR process.
From what I know it is expensive to apply for US GC as it involves taking the help of an attorney. So, you pay attorney fee and application/filing fee. There is no go around it where as Canadian PR and Australian PR is a DIY process.
Australian PR is processed by two teams based in Brisbane and Adelaide. You do not get your case officer (CO) email address/telephone number. You get a general location based email address/telephone number to where you can address your query.

And, what exactly is your occupation?

Thanks for setting that right. My occupation is Translator. It was on the CSOL of Tasmania, but then my language pair wasn't in the list so it didn't work.

A friend of mine has been living in Melbourne for about 3 years now, working as a project manager at a construction company. He is very happy with the life down under :)

Translator is in Northern Territory or Tasmania CSOL. For Tasmania it is only for shortages in following languages only: Arabic, Burmese, Hazargi, Farsi, Dari, Nepali (Recognition), Amharic, Tigrigna, Karen, Swahili, Spanish, Mandarin.

Can you give me a general idea about the process
Yes, sure.
Look at SOL and CSOL and see where your occupation is listed. If it is in SOL you can apply for 189 visa provided you get 60 points using points calculator provided in my earlier response.
If your occupation is in CSOL you can apply for 190 visa. You can register in the following website and input your code and see what all states will sponsor you. See those states relevant website to find whether you fulfill their eligibility.
https://www.anzscosearch.com/
Once you decide to move with AUS PR you need to apply to concerned assessment agency to get your education and work experience assessed. Unlike Canada you need to have education and occupation related to each other. Otherwise you lose some years of work experience to compensate for education in a different field. There are other ways around it.
Once you have decided between 189 and 190 visa you need to file an "Expression Of Interest" (EOI).
For 189 visa you have to wait for an invitation to apply for a visa and normally there are two invitation rounds every month. The duration to get an invite depends on number of persons in line (with points higher and equal) before you. Point to be noted is each occupation has been allocated a certain number of visas each year. So, if you are a software engineer and 2500 visas are allotted per year then every invitation 120 to 125 invitations will be sent based on higher points ranking.
If you are applying for a 190 visa then after generating an EOI you need to apply to states asking for sponsorship. If they sponsor you then you get 5 points. 190 visa does not go through an invitation process. Once a state sponsors then you will get an invitation to apply for visa.
After you get an invitation to apply for visa lodge your visa application, pay your fees, get your PCC and medicals done and upload all documents. Wait for visa approval.

Wow, such a long list of occupations in demand for NT. I guess noone wants to live there... Thanks for the updated information, jairichi. I think I will see through the Canadian application first, which currently looks very promising to be a happy ending. If the Canadian application goes south, I think I will try my chances at Norway or Sweden. I have already done my research, and I look to be eligible for both.

Hi all,

I have graduated from a Canadian university (Mathematical Physics bachelor) and working as a Marketing Analyst for almost 2 years. Don't want to waste time waiting for nothing with Canadian immigration anymore.

Can you please advise me where do I check exactly whether my education field fits my occupation for the VETASSESS for Australian Immigration skills assessment?

Also, is there any tracker where I can check what is the lowest ranking score of the invited candidates for 189 subclass visa?

Thanks

The list is long for most states. It is requirement based sponsorship. Yes, I think northern territory is like northern Canada :p I am sure your Canadian PR will come through if you have set your eyes there. Good luck. I might sound overly paranoid to you if I say stay away from Europe. You have been seeing what they are going through in the last one year. This is purely my opinion and not intended to be racist or hurt anyone. Apologies if it did so.
