Anyone renew PR application abroad via family submitting application for you?

Anyone done this before? If one's PR card expires in 5 months for example and is currently living abroad, has anyone had their family in Canada submit the application for you (obviously the applicant fills and signs the forms etc and posts it to family)... So you save the trip of having to come to Canada just to mail it from a Canadian address, and instead just fly to Canada once to pick up the new PR card (of course before your current one expires!)

Please share any experiences and if it was hassle free .. Also please ignore any technicalities/requirement rules here as one is already in the midst for the citizenship process so requirements aren't an issue here.. Just focused on the example/scenario above

Thanks!

Sure. It can work just fine for you provided you can return before your current card expires to pick the card up if necessary. Remember though, just because your citizenship process is started doesn't negate anything. If CIC 'notices' you are outside of the country you might find yourself still fighting to get citizenship many moons from now. Just a heads up.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
1. Sure fill out the application showing your actual residential addresses abroad but listing the Canadian address as the mailing address.

2. Mail this to your family who in turn mail on to CIC. (I don't follow the logic here given the mailing address above - maybe its to get Canada Post some revenue which they badly need). Make sure your family mail it in a method requiring proof of signature.

3. Operational Bulletins from CIC indicate a policy requiring out of country applicants to collect their PR Cards in person. CIC can then verify your actual passport stamps - way to easy too 'modify' copies and hide absences.

4. Taking into account 3 above PRs that are not visitor visa exempt to Canada or who do not have a US visa (to allow a land border crossing) must be very careful that their current PR Card does not expire, get lost, damaged etc prior to collecting their new PR Card. This especially if your RO is on the margins at PR Card renewal which means it will be breached by renewed PR Card collection - woe unto you if you need a PRTD with RO breach as it will be denied!
