Seen the change in regs that is impending. I have been in Canada since 2002 on various work permits, and this new rule has me worried. My intentions now (actually on advice from CBP while getting my last one) is to apply for a CEC PR. I believe I meet all the requirements.

Anyways, I have an occupation that is in demand, basically I have specialty experience, so my question is, if the LMO comes back as positive, and I go across the border, what is the likelyhood of being DENIED the TWP??

Any comments are welcome.

I speak fluently, obviously write it too, so that won't be a reason, however, I have been on TWP's for a while so I am worried.
My current TWP only runs out in Sept 2011 so I'm good for one more year if push comes to shove...

Cheers
H.

If you were denied a new TWP for your new LMO, that would not invalidate your old TWP as far as I know so you have nothing to lose. Another year should be more than enough processing time for CEC.

I've been in Canada since 2001 on TWP's all the time. I applied for and got provincial nomination and have submitted my PR application. Getting provincial nomination meant I didn't have to get another LMO to extend the TWP when it ran out in August. my latest permit should be more than enough to get the PR application sorted.

A number of friends (also on TWP's in Quebec) have been told they wont be issued ant further ones. It looks like they're trying to tell everone that the T in TWP does stand for "temporary".

The pros of PNP over CEC is that once you are a PNP nominee, you can get your work permit extended without an LMO. The cons are that if you lose your job, your application is toast plus PNP takes a bit longer than CEC.

So.. if you have a secure job and you like it there and it's important to you that you don't have to leave Canada at any point, go for PNP. If you don't have a secure job and want your application processed faster, go for CEC.

Thanks!

Certainly makes me feel better.

Still nervous about the whole situation tho, it is a daunting task to be sure, and I am just afraid that I'll be denied...

If you have an LMO, you won't be denied the new work permit. You can also apply inland - no need to actually go to the border:

OK gotcha!

Only reason I don't apply via Vegreville is that the future wife likes to go to the US for shopping occasonally!

(and it is immediate, not a 6 week process...)
