Hi everybody,

I'm starting to look for a job in Canada, and I tried to find some advice in internet to build correctly my Resume or CV. But there are a lot of information and I don't know which one are true or not.
So I would like to know if someone can give me some advices to build a CV with the Canadian rules.

Many thanks in advance!

There are some general guidelines on this Canadavisa page:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canadian-employment-resume.html

And this is from Workopolis, one of the biggest job portals in Canada:
http://www.workopolis.com/work.aspx?action=Transfer&View=Content/Common/ResourceCentre/career911/resumes/ResumeIntroView&lang=EN

Hope it helps... good luck in your job hunt!

I am a professional resume consultant who has successfully helped many people find jobs. Here is some basic advice for the Canadian market:

  • Avoid providing personal details such as marital status, religion, number of children.
  • Limit your work history to roughly the last 10 years.
  • Include your most significant educational and professional accomplishments.
  • Quantify your accomplishments whenever possible.
  • Make it perfect! Avoid spelling and grammar mistakes at all costs!
  • Have your resume professionally written, or at least proof-read by a native speaker.
  • Entice the reader to want to invite you to an interview.
  • Make multiple resumes, depending on the types of positions you are applying for.
  • Format your resume so that it is easy to read

Hi all

I am new to the forum. I am in need of advise as well.

I have a degree in electronics engineering and have been working in that field for more than 10yrs. My wife was asked by relative to join them in manitoba through the family support stream.

Some of the post did not answer my questions directly so, I have a few questions regarding my resume
1. How should I re-write my resume? should I consider myself as someone with no experience, since based on a few threads here my credentials doesn't mean squat.?
2. Should we aim for an entry level job first like fast food security guard etc? how do we orgranize our resume then?
