I decided to start this topic mainly to make it a guide/reminder for those planning to apply for citizenship.
we can all make mistakes at any stage of the process and depending on how big is the mistake , it could cost u a lot of time if not your citizenship. I was happy and feeling very confident to be able to remember all my travel records(I have all stamps and Boarding passes...), by chance I was looking at one of my passports and I looked at one of the luggage stamps they stick on the cover at check in then I was surprised to notice the date on it is not the one I used in the residence calculator. In fact I used the date stamped when entering my home country but I forgot that I left Canada one day earlier because usually flights from Canada to anywhere in the east are overnight flights. Fortunately I still didn't apply. That's how I decided to start this thread and collect as many advices as possible for future applicants and those in process as well. your participation would be highly appreciated.
Advice #1 First of all, don't wait till the last week before u apply to start collecting documents. Of course no one think about getting ready for citizenship application right after landing although they SHOULD.
Imagine we knew about RQ since we landed...I'm sure every one would have saved all bills and documents, kept track of all entries/exits, saved the old passports.... Now, if you know someone who landed recently or would be eligible in a few years , tell them to get ready and save all docs they have.
also make sure they don't spend over 1/2 a year outside of Canada(New Law!).
Advice #2 if you're not 200% sure about your entry/exit history, request the record from CBSA.
I'm sure many of you have some advices to share.
Thank you.
