My case:

- 1 year full time study
- 1 year PGWP work permit
- Working till today - applied PR
- PGWP expiring on 4th December 2013

Can I apply a direct work permit so that I will be on implied status after expiry of PGWP and can work? No LMO.
I am hoping to get AOR by the time and then switch to Bridging work permit.

Can I do something like above to continue working?

I really appreciate your feedback.

Thank you.

Short answer, yes, if your objective is to continue working a little while.

It looks like you aren't currently eligible for Canadian Experience Class, based on the work experience criterion. But by all accounts, they don't assess your eligibility before sending you an AOR, they simply check whether your application package is complete and signed. The AOR can then be used to get a bridging work permit.

You must apply for the bridging work permit before your PGWP expires, and this puts you on implied status until a decision is made on the new permit.

Not sure what you mean by "apply a direct work permit".

You can not apply for BOWP if your current work permit is expired.

Please read the rules properly.

Also it wasn't clear that you have applied for PR yet. If you haven't, note that AORs are currently taking about 60 days to arrive after the application package has been received. So even if you were to apply today, you would not receive your AOR until next year.

Having an AOR is the minimal requirement for getting a bridging permit.

Applying for the bridging permit before your AOR arrives is something you could try, and it may work, but it becomes a race between the people sending AORs and the people processing the bridging permits.

Agreed! Unless you are close to getting an AOR, I wouldnt try for BOWP. It will be a race and BOWP is more than likely going to be processed quicker. Not only would you be denied, but then later on you would need to explain the circumstances. Not necessarily have negative impact, but looks bad and invites more scrutiny from officer reviewing your file. Not to mention all subsequent applications for other permits and whatnot.

I'd say try to figure out another way to extend. Maybe continue school and then get more work time under your belt...experience for the last 3 years counts towards a PR app. I know it sucks, but if you have to.

Thank you so much.

Let me answer the confusions first:

- I applied PR on 30th October 2013.
- 'Direct work permit' means ask for extension without AOR

I still have a month left on my open work permit.

I applied an extension on the base of current job, at least it will buy me some time.

Give suggestions.
