A pretty basic question but I can't get my head around PNP

Hi guys, so this is probably a ridiculously simple question but my mind has become an immigration mess!

So, PNP, your employer gets permission to sponsor you, you submit your sponsorship to the province, they (hopefully) agree and allow you to be sponsored and put your case forward to get PR, this takes 18 months or so and costs around $2000.

Now, once your sponsorship has been approved does that mean you can apply for a TWP until you get PR? So you only need the promise of future PR with the PNP program to get a work permit? If so, what is the processing time for them to approve a sponsorship, in Ontario specifically?

Again, apologies if this is a ridiculously easy question but my brain has ceased to understand basic immigration matters.

Thanks!

Hi Jean,

You can only apply / extend your work permit without the need for LMO only once you get the actual nomination from PNP. Note that this is NOT just when the company got the letter of approval.

It looks like this (for Ontario)

- Company nominates your position - processing times 3 months

- Position approved, now you nominate yourself to Ontario PNP - processing times 3 months

- Nomination certificate received, now you apply directly to CIC for actual PR application - processing times 12 months

- Only now you can apply for work permit (after you receive the nomination certificate)

Not a promise necessarily. When applying for work permit they will need to see your

- Job offer
- Job support letter from Ontario PNP
- Nomination certificate (copy)

Let's say that you got your Ontario PNP nomination but no job, they will not be extending your work permit.
