Hi,

The IELTS to CLB Conversion chart is given here.

cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/language/charts.asp
As per this, the reading score of 7 above is CLB 9 and if it is greater than 8.0, then it is CLB 10.

Hey everyone, In my General IELTS Exam 2016, I acquired Listening-8, Reading-6.5, Writing-7, Speaking-7.5! Now I just wanted to know the points I get with these scores. Are points calculated from IELTS Scores to Express Entry profiles according to the entire Score or points are calculated as per ability. For Example: For,
Listening-8(6 points),
Reading-6.5(4 points),
Writing-7(6 points),
Speaking-7.5(6 points)

Because to my understanding if this is true, I get 23 points! Is this how its calculated or it depends on whole score?? Because i get 12(age)+23(educational qualifications)+11(Work experience)+23(IELTS Score)= 69 points which is eligible.

Do I need to give an IELTS Exam again?

CLB Speaking Listening Reading Writing Points per ability
7 6.0 6.0 6.0 6.0 4 ( )
8 6.5 7.5 6.5 6.5 5 (Reading)
9 7.0 – 9.0 8.0 – 9.0 7.0 – 9.0 7.0 – 9.0 6 (Listening, Writing, Speaking)

your score
Listening - 8 - 6
Reading - 6.5 - 5
Writing - 7 -6
Speaking - 7.5 -6
total 23 points

Hi @AadityaS,

I believe you are checking out the old system of 100 points marking. With the express entry the points system has changed to 1200 total points out of which 600 points are for Nomination/Job Offer and the remaining 600 for the personal skills.

You can check http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp for calculating your points based on 1200 points scale.

As far as IELTS is concerned, below are the points table for IELTS.

CLBsWith Spouse/CL PartnerWithout Spouse
Less than CLB 400
CLB 4 or 566
CLB 689
CLB 71617
CLB 82223
CLB 92931
CLB 10 or more3234

So for the Official languages Proficiency, you will be awarded with following points -

With common law partner
Listening - 29
Reading - 22
Writing - 29
Speaking - 32
Total - 112 Points

Without common law partner
Listening - 31
Reading - 23
Writing - 31
Speaking - 34
Total - 119 Points

You do not have CLB 9 throughout as you missed on the Reading (6.5). It is CLB 8.

So for the CRS – C. Skill transferability factors, you will lose lot of points because you do not have CLB 9 through out. And that is a major points gaining thing.

I have given IELTS for 3 times as I always missed on something or the other. Third time I scored CLB 9 throughout and the total extra points with CLB 9 that I could achieve jumped with more than 60 points.
I would suggest you to take a look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp and see how much will you gain currently and how much will your points be if you score CLB 9 throughout. You will get an answer.
