Hi Everyone,

I'm Jothi Prakash. I'm a job seeker with 1 year PGWP who lives in Toronto. I have been attending interviews(from direct company) for the past 4 months and most of them are rejecting since I have lesser than a year permit. I have 4.6 years of experience in IT from India. Most of the opportunities are comes through consultancies but I didn't get in-person interview. Now, since I have 8 months stay things are not worked well for me. My plan is to get a job and settle in Canada. I would like to hear some tips to find jobs for my situation, ways to extend my stay.

Thanks in Advance!
Jothi Prakash

I'll help with one question - in order to extend your stay, you will need to find an employer who is willing to go through the LMIA process so that you can qualify for a closed work permit.

Tip 1. India experience is no good. So drop it.
Tip 2. Apply for junior positions, specify you do not have any Canadian experience.
Tip 3. Get informed of the posibilities of getting a work permit/permanent resident application. Inform of your plan to the recruiter (what they need to do, what you need to do).

;D ;D ;D

Really !!

Why is Indian experience no good. Any experience as long as its relevant and verifiable is worth mentioning in resume.

You can mention it. But for your expectations you should not count it, it will hurt your job hunting.

Indian experience is not relevant because India has a very bad name in IT due to offshore and call centers. Also, Canadian experience is what is desired and what employers want to see in a resume.

No wonders you have -134 as negative ratings.

Jothi - You need to be cautious with the advise you get on forums. Indian experience from reputed companies count. If your work-experience is from a company ( IBM , Accenture , Infosys , TCS etc.) that's well known in Canada then you are good. If you have got fake experience letter from an unknown training institute in Ameerpet@Hyderabad , then recruiters will think twice before selecting your resume.

Be confident. Be proud of your genuine Indian work-experience. Look for technologies where demand is more than supply. It's already been more 4 months searching for full time. Join a contract job and keep searching for full time during spare time.

I'd follow this advise.

People think that this is some sort of "let's get optimistic" avoiding real advice that does not please their eyes (ears).
