    July 2014 Citizenship Applications

Hi guys, I am also a July 2014 applicant and have been monitoring this thread closely for a while now. I just have one quick question - any idea how long does Vancouver office take to schedule a test? My application (family - 2 people) has been in process (according to ECAS) since October 8...

Does working as a Financial Planner gets counted towards CEC?

Yes, you`ll be considered as self-employed (you`ll get T4A, not T4) so it won`t qualify. I worked as a Financial adviser (commission based) and I was reporting my income as a business income and this experience did not count toward my CEC application. Sorry to say that.

Help - Apply for CEC with T4A - Great Thanks

Well, I am pretty much sure you`re not eligible with T4A cause you`re considered to be self-employed. You need to be a regular employee in order to qualify.

Is BC so bad to work & live

I live in Vancouver and it is not as bad as everybody says :) There are jobs here, it is true that it is very expensive here (taxes, housing etc.) but for me, it is worth it. People here are nice, not xenophobic and you can get a good job, if you try hard enough.

    canadians hates new immigrants

I think you cannot take a statement of one person and generalize it. Surely there are some Canadians who dislike immigrants (mostly from ignorance and disinformation) but I do not believe this is a general opinion here. At least, it is not my experience in BC. Most people are friendly towards...

Yes, I was told the same three days ago - to use the new SIN number when filling taxes for 2011, just change the SIN with a bank and an employer.

    Retirement plans in Canada

I am almost sure immigrants can have RRSP accounts. According to this webpage http://www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4000267: Who is eligible for an RRSP? You are eligible to open an RRSP if you: Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes* and file income taxes in Canada...

Which is better: college diploma or postgraduate certificate?

Definitely postgraduate certificate. College diploma is lower education than university whereas for postgraduate certificate you need to have some form of university degree so it will most likely be more appreciated by potential employers.

Actually, there is... My spouse got an open work permit for 2.5 years based on my study permit. It was actually pretty easy.
