Marriage after COPR

Guys,

Can anyone help me with my issue? I got my Copr stamped very recently. During this process, I got married last month. When I tried to update my marital status using a webform. I got the following response

Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

We verified the information you provided and can confirm that it is not necessary to provide additional documentation if you do not currently have an application in process with IRCC.

Since a final decision was already made on your application, the information you provided will not be added to your file.

If applicable, we invite you to include this information when you submit a new application.

This led me to a couple of questions:

1) Can I do a soft landing without any issues as I have already updated IRCC with my marital status?

2) Can I sponsor my spouse as soon as I move to Canada?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,
southwindsor_ct

Hello,
I got my CoPR and I'm already engaged, how can I check if I get married and add my spouse to my application how it can affect my application? If it will be accepted or get rejected. Is there like a simulation?
The thing is I don't want to lose the chance but at the same time I read that sponsoring your spouse later on can take up to 18 months.
Any thought would be helpful.

You are not married. When are you getting married? Before or after landing?

I'm considering getting married before but many people advised against.
I'm only considering the before given the sponsorship process takes long.

So you have two options:

1. Don’t land: Get married now and advise IRCC that you are married. COPR is cancelled. Your spouse will undertake medical/police check and PR application is processed. Both get COPR and then can come together to Canada.
2. Don’t marry and land: Return to get married and then go back to Canada to apply for spousal PR. You need to be in Canada to apply.

Both will take time.

Thank you for your response.
Does the first option takes less time?
Do we know average processing times in these cases? And the risk of my score going down (CRS)/to be rejected? Would i go back to the pool of candidates like at the beginning of EE process?

Honestly I don’t know which one is faster. The first one should take less time (but cannot predict) and then you come together. IRCC processing times are on the website - google it. You don’t go back into the pool but her PR application starts processing from the start because your COPR is cancelled. She must pass the medical. Getting married after you land means she doesn’t come with you, and must be in Canada to sponsor her. In either scenario, she must be included. Do not get married, then not inform IRCC and land with COPR because in that scenario, you can never sponsor her.

Thank you for your thorough reply.
I’m new in this and i’ve been reading on this thread. People are getting the CoPR again with their spouses.
Is there a chance for the PR to be rejected? Any clue about this?

It is not uncommon for applicants to add a spouse or newborn baby after getting copr. You won't be rejected if submit the right document. When you notify Ircc of the change in family composition, Ircc will ask you to submit a list of documents for them to add your spouse or newborn child. You will be asked to return your visa/COPR for cancellation and new ones will be issued after evaluation of your newly added family member has been completed.
Good luck going forward.

It's a good thing you got a reply. But you should try to hear back from your VO that processed your application directly before your copr expires.
Try to call ircc directly and speak to an agent.
Gather all your spouse documents and required forms and upload them through web forms. Usually they will ask you to submit your copr and passport for cancellation while they work on your spouse's addition. Again try to call ircc and speak to an agent, that should at least help..
Pls Do update us of your progress as it progresses

Hi
How do I call IRCC from outside Canada?
How to call IRCC within a min.

Go to ur play store or Apple store, download an app called Viber. After confirming it, dial +1-800-267-6788

Calling hrs is between 8am and 4pm which is 12noon to 8pm (GMT+2) time at the moment.

They operate in such a way that before there client support can receive calls, it must be exactly 8am

So you'll call them like 3 mins to that 8am

When you call, you'll first press 1 to select English

You'll press 2 to be connected to IRCC and this period, they'll tell you that client support department is closed but never mind.... Continue

After that you'll be asked to press 1 to provide your UCI but press 2 that you don't have

It doesn't affect anything because once they pick you'll still provide your UCI again and you need not to waste time providing it again thereby taking more time you are spending on the call

So this period, you'll be asked to choose number again, you can take style to waste time by listening to the options so that the time would be like 1 min to 12 noon. Your phone time

The next number you'll choose is after pressing 2 that you don't have UCI is 3

After that, the next number you'll press is 2

Then the last number to direct you to the agent is 0, the moment your time changes to 12 noon exactly, press 0

Infact, the call won't spend 5 seconds before an agent will pick

If you missed this time, you can try it later but what they'll tell you is that there are plenty people on queue. You have to call back later and if you are lucky to be connected, get ready to wait for as long as 1hr if at all an agent picks it.

Hi. I am in similar situation. Just a quick question.. did ircc reply to you after your copr expired ? and what was the reply
Hello, i received response from IRCC requesting for spouse documents and we have completed all the steps including biometrics. So waiting for our new COPR (this will take sometime). IRCC was quick in asking all documents and responding to our submission .

If you have that choice, why don't you do soft landing get your PR card come back and then do the wedding? That way you just need to apply for sponsorship for your wife once you are in Canada.. A downside to this could be that spouse sponsorship timelines have increased in Canada. Even then I feel doing your soft landing before marriage is a better idea.
