Hello guys, I was denied boarding my flight on June 27th on the premise of getting a secondary confirmation from a “discretionary group” from Canada, I was told without this confirmation I would not be allowed to enter the plane, the response from the group came 3 hours after my flight had left and I was told I could only travel 4 weeks before my classes start. Now the problem is that my student visa would have expired by then. Any advice please?

Background info:
-I already have a visa and acceptance letter from my school
-My school is a registered DLI
-My program starts September but I won’t be able to enroll until mid august.
- I was denied boarding in Abuja international airport in Nigeria

On what exact date does your visa expires and on what exact date does your study begins?

Did you defer after having been approved earlier for a program? What do you mean by not being able to enroll until mid august? It's only when you are accepted that the visa is approved. Full story please.

Hello thanks for responding.
My visa expires on July 30th 2021 and my classes start on September 1st.

I deferred my summer 2021 term to fall 2021. I had already started school online in May 2020.
By enroll I meant I won’t be able to register for my September classes until mid august.

So u mean u cant fly bc of the 4 weeks? Or is there any more reasons?
That’s the only reason I was given and it’s not even like I’m a new student, I’ve already done one year at my school online, I’ve just never been to Canada to get my study permit.

Oh I see, so now there is the summer break going on right? I would suggest you call the Canadian embassy in Nigeria and explain them about the issue may be they'll affix a new stamp on your passport with extended date. (Your program is same right? No new program?)

So u are coming back student. You should be able to fly anytime. Not restricted by that 4 weeks rule. Its really weird here.

So your program and the visa associated with it was from Fall (Sep 2020) to Fall (Sep 2021). From what I understand, you deferred your last semester to Fall 2021 (probably to meet the requirement for 50% of the program needs to be done in person in Canada to get the points for Canadian education in the PR application).

Since you have differed your admission you will need a study permit extension

Hello thanks for replying, my program started in may 2020 but my visa was only issued in my November 2020.
I’m not sure how to get a study permit extension because I technically do not have a study permit, it’s just the visa I have. So does that mean I have to re-apply for a visa?

was your visa only issues till Nov 2020 because your passport was expiring? Also, on what basis were you going to fly to Canada without a valid visa?

It is correct that you can't enter the country before 4 weeks of study commencing date.
I suppose you missed the very important part which is mentioned by IRCC on their website also (If the deferral start date is more that 150 days than you will have to inform IRCC through webform) . Please check if the same applies to your country aswell. Kindly take a look at the tweet.
