Oct applicants should wait for 12 weeks before acting otherwise.
IRCC received 17,500 applications within the few weeks of the new 3/5 rules
from Oct 11.This number excludes Nov.,applications.
Good luck to you all.
So, I have submitted my application on October 20. I should wait till Jan 20, then what! I need my passport before summer!!

I am one of the 14% on this website who submitted their application in October but didn't hear anything yet! Why Canada? Every stage of this process was so long and rocky!
I hear you.. it been a very frustrating journey since bill c6 got proposed.. bill c24 is the reason for all the delays.. now cic is struggling with a huge congestion of applications.. all you can do is be patient and wait.. you will get your passport eventually.

I am not sure why you expect to get your passport before October 2018?
It says clearly on their website the process takes around a year to finish and you have applied in a month where they saw multiple times the amount of applications than in the months before. It could very well take a year or longer.

Because many people realistically will. Some applicants will go through the test in January, many more in February and March. Realistically, many applicants will get their passports in 5-6 months.
And none of those had happened , how do you they will happen in 5-6 Months? What makes it ‘realistic’ ?

I’ve been assuming 12 months is the worst case scenario for routine applications (and non routine applications taking longer than 12 months). 4-6 months seems like the full duration for the majority of applicants. It looks like test invites are scheduled for 3 months after an AOR is given. So all that is needed after that is a yes or no, then the ceremony. Once you pass the test, it should be smooth sailing from there on out. Right?

It depends on the test center location, some are faster than others depending on the workload. Edmonton/Calgary are the fastest and your timeline estimation of 4-6 months easily applies there. However, test centers in GTA (especially Scarborough) can easily take 9-12 months till oath ceremony.

Test invitation 3 months after AOR? Who said it is given ? Given by where?

That’s not a ‘given’ , that’s just the historical average of people’s reported results BEFORE the new law and before the surge of new applications, it means little to nothing on how much time it would take to get from AOR to test invitation
At least 24 people on this forum from October have received their test date. My local office is Calgary so I expect the invite in about 4 weeks. Fingers crossed!

So far the average number of days between "Application received" and AOR is 36 days for October applicants, and the average between AOR and IP is 22 days. That is reasonably comparable to the averages before C6. So far there is no data to support the theory that processing time will double to 12 months as a result of C6.

HAPPY New Year!!!
  • I agree with "uncomfortable"... a number of post-October 11 applicants got test invite within 3 months of AOR. It's very obvious on the sheet, so I'm not sure why some of you are saying it's not the case.
  • Remember some folks who had friends at CIC telling them, back in March, April, May 2017 that C6 would not pass; or the bill is dead; or C6 would not implemented until 2018.... some predicted that there will be 100,000 applicants on the first day....all those predictions were wrong.
  • I could hardly believe when the first applicants who got AORs started posting... within 3 weeks of sending their apps... it was quite shocking.
  • I'l stand by what CIC says until proven otherwise. That is, most routine applications should be done within 12 months and that they have added new staff to deal with the larger volume of apps. Therefore, it's highly feasible for some of us to take the oath within 5-6 months (based on location)
