Anybody having any idea on how long it might take?
Mine shows this as well and I applied on 31st July from VFS Delhi. Don't know how long they'll take. Doesn't matter now because I called my college and they deferred my case automatically. :/

Even if you were to receive your visa on 4th, there are a few things to consider:
1. Most flights leave for Canada at night and the shortest flight is of 21 hours. So even if you manage to get your study permit, have your luggage packed, book a flight, reach Canada and stand in the immigration queue for hours (which is separate for students) and receive your visa and work permit at the airport, you still won't be able to make it to your morning classes on 5th.

2. Most colleges need confirmation of Study Permit approval at least a week before the course starts. Unless you have an extension, it's quite possible that they might unregister you and give your place to someone else.
(They automatically deferred my course to Winter 2018 because I didn't update them about it.)

And this brings me to this question- If we get our study permit in the coming week and the course is deferred to Winter 18, how much time in advance can you go to Canada? And will you be able to work?
You do have a point to feel concerned about. I have put them a mail previously and got reply; asking me to be there by 5th while my classes are from 6th.

Also your question regarding delayed Visa status post your offer expiry date or after deferral. In most cases you have to appeal to CIC regarding your deferral so they might give you a chance for the next intake or extend your limit.

Going to Canada and working till you reach your next intake joining date is really an interesting question which I too need to learn from sources. Will keep posted if anything comes by, in contrast to this.

They deferred your case automatically? Between, is deferral possible even if the next intake is full and closed according to college website.
Because in my offer letter, its nowhere mentioned about deferral or anything related to it.

My counsellor and I had been bugging the college for quite a while for extension because I feared my study permit wouldn't arrive on time. The college didn't even inform me about the deferral until I called them yesterday and then wrote a mail to my admission officer about my course schedule disappearing from the student account.
You should check your college website and see whether your course is available for winter session (if not, then for spring/may session)
If you defer then you might not lose any money but once college starts and you haven't deferred, then you might lose a substantial amount. The offer letter doesn't mention anything about deferral. They will issue you a new offer letter once you put a request.

I applied for study permit from Kathmandu Vfs on 14th July and my file was forwarded to Delhi. My medical was updated on 29th Aug. I have not received any update since then. My class starts from 5th sept. I wrote an email to my Advisor and the admission section for an extension and they replied with the following :

Hello,
Please note that the official start date for the Fall 2017 term is September 5th. We do not provide extensions to that. You should discuss with your department advisor, if starting your courses late is an option for you.

As long as you are here before the DNE deadline (September 18th) then you can still technically start the program, however you will be responsible for any coursework you have missed. If you are not able to make it in time this term, please keep in mind that you must drop your courses by the DNE deadline, or else you will still be financially responsible for them.

Can anyone please tell me as to what this means? Will I be able to attend classes if I get my visa this week or do I have to defer my admission?

They are asking you to be there before September 18th which also is your offer expiry date. However its your responsibility to cover up all the missing classes since they start from September 5th while you might not be able to attend from the very first date.

It means that you should mail your department advisor (it will be mentioned on the college website under your course -> department)
If the advisor allows you to join classes late but before 18th, you still have to cover up the syllabus.
But if you are somehow unable to reach even till 18th September, then you will lose some money as you be withdrawing after the deadline.
So there is a choice for you to either take a risk or go for deferral.

My case is really different. The problem before requesting to defer is,

All the upcoming Jan and May intakes are closed as per the college website. Also the course and the campus I am going to does not have the same course for Jan or May; it only offers it for next Sept. I am wondering if they will change my campus for next intake or they will ask me to come next year- which is no less than a nightmare for me.

If you can't defer, then I suggest you apply for a refund asap. You'll lose a small amount of money but you still have time to apply for winter session in some other college.
Otherwise you can ask your query at admissions email, they'll be able to help you best.

I exactly don't know the date since I linked my Offline application to CIC online today. However I have enquired with the Hospital Immigration desk to know they have sent my medicals on 19th July. I guess they might have been updated during August, no idea on date since the CIC website doesn't provide dates for the same.
When did you get your medical update?
