How does one get FBI PCC while in India

I am in the process of applying for Canada Immigration from India. They now require us to submit the PCC along with the application. I have lived in India for the past 2 years and I spent 7 years in USA on an F1 and then an H1 visa (in 3 different states). If I am not mistaken, I will have to obtain FBI clearance for my stay in the US. My questions are :

(1)If so, how do I obtain it, since there are no fingerprinting agencies in India that are similar to the ones in the US. Moreover, don’t they have to be recognized by the FBI in the US?

(2)Also, do I need PCC for each state I lived in the US?

(3)Are we allowed to take fingerprints ourselves? If yes, what did you fill in the space for "Signature of official taking fingerprints"?

(4)Can the FBI fingerprinting card (FD-258) be printed on ordinary paper or is there a specific paper type it has to be printed on.

I would greatly appreciate assistance from senior members regarding my above queries.

Thanks in advance for your valuable advice.

I am not a senior and not in India but did obtain FBI and California police clearances for the puropose of canadian immigration. Please remember that you do not necessarily need to send your PCCs at the time of submission of your application to CIO ... you can send it once the visa office requests for it. The FBI cert can take upto 6-12 weeks to process. when I contacted theFBI by phone they did tell me that the fingerprints need to be on the FD-258 cards. It is best to get State clearance certs as well. You can ask the FBI to post them to you and you can also ask them to send you extra cards (in case you need finger prints for your State certificates... California requires fingerprints). Others may be able to let you know where to get the fingerprints done in India (check this forum out... if i'm not mistaken there were some responses about where to do the fingerprints in India ... not thru agents which charge a hefty sum). You cannot do the fingerprinting yourself but thru a qualified fingerprinting person (usually the local police). Check the FBI website and the State Police/Departments of justice website for info. on how to apply for the clearances.

Hi,

It's the same process, you need to get the finger prints done on FD 258, make sure you get your finger prints done through a professional as it's very complicated. I don't know which part of you are from but there are from but there are some people in Delhi who got these FBI cards and they do finger printing as well for 3-4k. You can also order finger printing cards from EBay as well.

Thanks a lot for the info.

Just thinking aloud :)

Since an FBI background check would include my (criminal) histroy in any part of the country, it would have to include a check at all the addresses (in all the states) I lived at while in the US. Which means that a PCC from the FBI is basically a clearance from the different States as well. Unless a particular State refuses to give a clearance without a separate application from me.

Any thoughts on this.

I lived in states for 2 years before shifting to UK and got my FBI done from UK. I lived in NY and submitted only FBI with my application , I was advised it's enough and I don't need to get the NY police clearance, if CHC needs it they can ask me to provide it later on but it's very rare, as FBI covers all the states .

Sandy surrey is correct in that an FBI clearance is compulsory and the Visa office will inform you if state clearances are also required (check the CIC website on "how to obtain police certificates" section). I would get the State clearances as well especially if the States you need clearances from require fingerprints as part of your application for clearance (different states have different requirements) and it would be convenient to do all the fingerprints at the same time. Go to a reputed person to do the fingerprinting since they will be returned if your fingerprints are not good especially with the FBI as they can take a while to respond. Check with others on the forum.

I live in Delhi and I recently got my FBI clearance in one go. JK consultancy in Dwarka, sector 7 , Delhi is the person to go to for fingerprinting.
He charges 3k to 4k per person ( negotiable) but he is perfect at the job. Do not do it yourself. You will get smudged prints and they will be returned by FBI. It is not easy to take ROLLING fingerprints yourself. JK carries FBI cards so do not worry about that.
About US state Clearances , only do it if asked for by Canadian visa office.

Do I need to provide a police certificate when applying for permanent residence?

Yes. Applicants should provide a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) certificate with fingerprints. State certificates may also be requested. The Visa Office will advise you if state certificates are required in your case.

Do they signed & stamped on the FBI form where it says, "SIGNATURE OF OFFICIAL TAKING FINGERPRINTS" after taking fingerprints?

Hi
Is this place a channeller for fbi or it just does the fingerprints and we need to get them attestested and send them?
Did CIC approve your fbi report generated via this firm?
