YVR Vancouver landing Questions.

My husband and I just recieved his COPR in the mail. Finally! We are planning a trip to California to visit his family for christmas. We are flying back on January 3rd. We land in YVR around 4:38pm and we are catching a small charter plane back to Vancouver Island at 6:50 pm. The charter plane usually requires you to check in no later than 20 minutes from take off. Is this enough time for the landing procedure? I'm just wondering what other peoples experiences are with landing at YVR airport. Did it take over 2 hours? I'm just worried we didn't leave enough time in between flights.

You might be lucky but personally I would try to re-arrange the internal flight. Three reasons (1) You have to queue to go through the immigration hall which often takes quite a long time and then after the landing procedure you have to collect your luggage from the carousels (2) the landing procedure itself takes hardly any time at all but there may be lots of others waiting to land as well. As I recollect I had to wait about 2 hours until my turn before the immigration officers came. (3) the internal flights leave from the other end of the airport. Walking there could take 20 minutes and when you arrive you have to go through the security procedures again: baggage x rays etc. 2 hours is cutting it fine!

Do you have Nexus Cards? If not, I highly recommend it. Beyond that, it depends on your airline (reliability) and if you have checked bags.

No we don't have nexus. And darn! i thought 2 hours would have been enough time to land.

Having experienced the `joy' of YVR, I'd suggest re-scheduling the connecting flight until the following day...and staying in either the Fairmount hotel in the airport, or the River Rock hotel ~ 5 minutes away, and celebrate!

As has been mentioned, it's completely dependent on the volume of travellers at the airport when you arrive.
