"WP-ext except PGWP" question (closed work permit)

I understand this letter is to be used to show that I can still work on my current work permit conditions while my work permit extension application is in progress.

The thing is I've applied for a closed work permit with a certain employer and I am currently working for them on my PGWP which is an open work permit. I also do some online work for a different Canadian company which I would need to stop once my PGWP expires.

But after receiving this letter, I'm confused. Does this mean I can continue to be on the conditions of my PGWP (after the PGWP expires) until a decision is made on my closed work permit application?

I'm in the same situation right now, does it mean we could continue working on PGWP maintained status after expiry?
