Hi all,

I just received a letter saying that my sponsorship application is approved, and they sent the application of my parents' application to the local VISA office. After I checked the processing time, the Beijing office takes 56 months !!! Is this a true number?

As for Jan2014, CIC allows new applicants for PR, would this mean the processing time (for step 2) be longer or shorter?

Processing time can always go up or down. And with this govt you never know what they're going to do. It's been a roller coaster for parental sponsorship. Is that the real number? Did you find it on the CIC website? Then yes. There was one point it was talking ten years, another they stopped accepting parental sponsorship all together and were even talking about deporting some who'd recently arrived.
Is it possible to go faster than the listed time? Yes I think so. And I'm sure there are factors that affect the case. Try browsing the forum topics for one on parental sponsorship and see how they're doing. In sure there has to be one. Good luck. The sooner you start the sooner you'll be through it

Results: Backlog and wait times on track to be cut in half in 2014

This according to the government. So take that for what it's worth.
