Hi, I'm hoping someone can answer my question. I would like to sponsor my husband to come to Canada. I am a Canadian citizen. Currently, I am unemployed; however I do not receive any social assistance or any type of assistance from the government.

Would I qualify as a sponsor, even if I am unemployed?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I guess you would have to answer the question of how you support yourself, or how do you plan to. Although I don't think they can deny it, they will look into it a lot further. I'm just self-employed and the sponsorship approval is still pending because I believe they are researching my eligibility.

If you live in Quebec, you are ok. There are no financial requirements for sponsoring spouse for Quebec residents.

There is no financial requirement outside of Quebec as well, if sponsoring a spouse. You do need to explain how you plan on supporting yourselves (as you are the sponsor after all which puts the financial burden on you). As long as you are 'employable', you should be Ok.

ok great ... thanks for your replies ... definitely one less worry off my mind
