I want to work for a half or full year, then become a student but continue working. I am from the US, but have no family in Canada. Would just be moving up probably to a french speaking portion, but that is not set in stone. What forms should I file for? Thx!

1. Unless you have skill that that is in demand, then you will probably find it difficult to get a work permit. You have to find an employer, the employer submits a request for a Labour Market Opinion to HRSDC, after advertising the job for 2 weeks on the Job Bank. The employer has demonstrate to HRSDC why there are no Canadians/Permanent Residents available for the job, and why those that applied were not qualified. If approved then you can apply for a work permit. If you are thinking of Quebec, then there is an additional step, the employer must get a CAQ see:http://tinyurl.com/yabyfz6
2. Depending on your age you could apply for a Working Holiday Visa for 6 months, see: http://www.swap.ca/in_eng/us_index.aspx
3. To apply for a study permit you would have to acceptance from a Canadian school and pay international rates (About $14,000 per year) and you would have to have $10,000 in addition for 1 years settlement funds. see: www.cic.ca
