Hi,

I am currently working remotely in Canada for a US company. The company does not have a physical address in Canada, but all the payroll is in Canadian and the taxes goes to Canada government. Does anyone know if this can be counted as CEC (Since FSW has to wait for such a long time)? Would this be qualified to the new 40k international student PR policy announced yesterday, since I am always physically working in Canada? Thanks!

Hi have you had any progress on this? We’re you successful using your remote experience?

So basically you are working under a payroll agency in Canada?

I'm in the same situation as OP, I'm employed through a Canadian PEO (which is my payroll employer of record) but my day to day is done for a U.S company.

Do you think it'll count towards CEC?

Technically, I am working in Canada and employed by a Canadian employer so it does meet the CEC requirements but it's a gray area.

Its not a gray area... only Canadian Citizens are eligible for US employers.... In your case, you are hired though a Canadian PEO so you are eligible under CEC cause you must be getting T4

I’m also getting T4. My us based company has a CRA business number but no physical location in Canada. The CEC requirements does not say anything about physical presence of the employer but the work must be carried out here in Canada. I’m so confused. Will my remote experience here in Canada for a US based company qualify for CEC given that I pay canadian taxes?

I am in the same boat.
I already have my PGWP, and an American company I worked for before as incorporated asked me if they hire me via PEO, does it work for the Canadian experience class?
I will generally be busy with Canadian Market for prospective clients, but the company does not have any active clients or entity in Canada right now. This is the target. After they have a client, they will create a branch in Toronto.
Of course, all my taxes etc will be under PEO.

What I know from NAFTA agreement is, Only a Canadian Citizen can work for a US Company which has no presence in Canada. Even PRs are not allowed to work for US Companies. So read agreements carefully
