Working Remotely for a US Company while in Canada?

Hello! I am interested in visiting my boyfriend (who is a Canadian citizen) for a few months in early 2020, and applying to extend my visitor status so that we can cohabitate for 12 months to fulfill the requirements for common-law inland spousal sponsorship for PR.

During the few months I am visiting him in Canada, is it legally OK for me to work my current job? I work remotely for a US based company, as an employee (not an independent contractor or self employed) and get paid to a US bank account. My company doesn't mind where I am working from, so I am very lucky for that! I just wanted to see if I would be violating any laws or if I could get in trouble for keeping this job throughout the whole spousal sponsorship process as I really love my job and wouldn't want to leave it.

Thank you! Any other helpful tips are appreciated as well (like if I should look in to getting a Canadian bank account and getting paid in to there instead once I'm staying with him for my extended visit, etc.)

You can work remotely as long as the company has no Canadian work/clients. Do NOT get a Canadian bank account and get paid here. Continue getting paid in the US.

Thank you so much! My company sells a service to many countries worldwide (north america, australia, asia) and thus some customers are Canadian. I'm a customer service rep...I am guessing that may be an issue? Would it be best to speak to a lawyer or other professional about this just to get clarification?

You are not allowed to work in Canada on visitor status however it will be very difficult ( not impossible) for IRCC or CRA to figure out if you are working.
