Dear all,

I have been working in Ontario for the last 12 months and on a temporary work permit that is valid for 3 year and plan to marry next year. My gf is from Trinidad and Tobago and has a temporary visitor permit already, after we are married can she join me here in Canada to live and how do i go about getting her here?

Thanks in advance

If you are working in a high skilled job (NOC 0, A or B), then after marriage, your wife can apply for a spousal open work permit. The SOWP will have the same duration as your work permit. She will need a TRV if her current one expires by then.

thanks for the reply

one further question, would she have to apply in her country or would she be able to get it at the border on entry

If she's already in Canada on a TRV, I believe she can get the SOWP at the border by flagpoling but I would advise that you check with CIC at 1-888-242-2100.

Since she's already received one TRV, then her chances of getting the SOWP and another TRV should be good regardless of where she applies.
