Hi, I am an international student on a study permit. I have a job at a Tim Hortons inside campus and I am wondering what is the maximum number of hours I can work per week. My study permit conditions state that:

1. 'MAY ACCEPT EMPLOYMENT ON OR OFF CAMPUS IF MEETING ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AS PER R186(F), (v) OR (w). MUST CEASE WORKING IF NO LONGER MEETING THESE CRITERIA'

I checked all information on cic.gc.ca and on my college that there is a maximum of 20 hours if I'm working off campus but no specific hours on in campus work. I am working in campus so I am not sure what is my maximum hours. I remember that when I entered Canada, the immigration officer told me that I can work 40 hours/week in campus but I can find any proof of that in writing. Please help! Thank you in advance!

My view and others can comment would be still 20 hours a week as you are working in a Tim Hortons doesn’t matter whether on or off campus it is still a Tim Hortons.

It think it is 20 hrs as well. You are in Canada to study so there would be no reason to approve full-time working hours.

Hi

IRCC does not limit the amount of hours a person can work on campus.

Hi thank you. But it said on my college website that any establishment that is inside the campus and is providing service for the college is considered as on campus work. More over, it’s the college who owns the Tims branch.

Hi thank you, do you know where i can find this is writing? I can’t find it on cic or any canadian gov websites. Thanks.

The fact that there is no limit stated on the IRCC website or in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act is your "proof in writing".

It doesn't matter that it is a Tim Hortons or who owns it. The business is physically located on campus, so it counts.

So just for my clarification if I got it wrong doesn’t matter whether it is some franchise that is operating on campus the OP could work 40-60 hours a week on campus even on a study permit ? Guess they will find some time to fit the reason for attending college in somewhere if so.

As long as the business operates on campus, it doesn't matter.

Who can you work for?

An “on-campus” employer can be:

  • the school
  • a faculty member
  • a student organization
  • yourself (self-employed on-campus)
  • a private business
  • a private contractor that provides on-campus services to the school.

Thank you so much for your help. I would tell this to my international adviser, because they said i am violating the regulations on my study permit. But I do remember that when I arrived here in Canada, the immigration officer told me I can 40/week on campus and 20/week off campus, Imagine my confusion and panic. Lol thank you very much!
