Hi there guys!
My name is Jamie, I am living in new Zealand.
I am REALLY struggling to find advice, info, on a issue I'm having.

I intend on applying for an IEC Working Holiday permit for new zealanders, sometime around march. Once approved I get 1 year to arrive in country.
My dilemma lies here: Ideally I'd like to land in Canada, purchase a vehicle and drive to Alaska for a 2 month-3 month holiday, not starting my 12 month work holiday until I re enter Canada from Alaska. This is important because when I finish my 12 month work permit, in order to sell the vehicle in Canada, it must have been bought in Canada, even more so; there is a offer to borrow and insure a friends vehicle that is in Canada.
Id really like to know wether I can enter on a visitors visa, even though I'll be presenting my confirmation letter for a work permit. I want to make the most of my 12 months in Canada, as it's only allowed once in a lifetime.

Really looking forward to a reply
Thank you so much

J

Your Working Holiday visa is linked to your Passport. They will "force" you to start your working holiday immediately upon arrival. Hope this helps.

1. Yes, you can do it. Just tell the BSO of your plans, and they should admit you as a visitor.
2. You are going to probably have 2 problems with the car. Without the work permit, on visitor status you probably will have difficulties registering the vehicle. The insurance will cost you an arm and a leg, so make sure you follow the instructions here: http://www.icbc.com/autoplan/moving/moving-to/newres-discount to get the no claims bonus. If you borrow the car, check with the US consulate to find out about entering the US with a car that is not registered in your name.
3. You can activate your IEC when you re-enter Canada at Beaver Creek from Alaska.
