hello, I will be finishing my last course for my degree end of next month. However, my study permit expires end of July 2017 which means I'll have to apply for study permit extension. The current processing time is about 68days and I know to apply for pgwp I'll require a valid study permit. My question here is can I start working full time as soon as I'm done with my degree end of this august 2017 (once final grades has been released) while waiting for my study permit to get approved before applying for pgwp. I have full time job offers already so idk if I can actually start working full time as soon as I'm done with my degree. Please help.

Info about me:
-Will be completing 4 years degree at the U of Manitoba august 31st 2017.
-Currently working part time while taking one summer course.
-Study permit expires 31st July 2017 and haven't renewed it yet.

Please ask me any other relevant info required to assess my situation.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

You can work full-time until a decision is made on your work permit application if you:

  • completed your study program
  • applied for a work permit before your study permit expired and
  • were eligible to work off-campus without a work permit while studying and did not work more hours than you were allowed to while working off-campus.
If these don’t apply to you, you must wait until the permit arrives to begin your new job. It is illegal to work in Canada without a permit.

If your work permit is refused, you must stop working the day you are notified of the refusal.
