Hi. I came here in Canada last 3 months ago as an international student. My class will start on septeber. Before I applied to a job, I paid the tution fee for the first sem and the registrar told me that I should register my subject on july. As per cic it is stated that I can work full time during breaks and I can work without waiting for the work permit right? So heres my questions

1. Is there any implication if I worked 3 months before the class? I paid the first sem before I worked but I am not yet registered as full time. The registration in the school will starf on july.

2. My course is diploma can I shift to certificate?

1. Yes - there are implications if you start working now. You'll be working illegally. If CIC finds out you can expect your study permit to be cancelled and to be told you have to leave Canada for violating the terms of your permit. Yes - you can work during breaks. However you cannot start working until classes begin.
2. Yes - you can shift to a certificate.

U have not started ur school so now is not your break

Of course u can change to cert (at the same major), just ask u school

FYI Ms. scylla. Many international student here in alberta are working 5 months before the start of their class. and I ask the canada where I got my SIN and she told me that I can work as long as I have sin and work permit and also the immigration at the POE said that I can work. The immigration did not said any restrictions to my WP :))

They've been given bad information and will have issues if CIC catches up to them. The officers at the POE are not CIC and don't always give out accurate information (much like the call centre). But it's your life...

yes thanks scylla. but I paid the full tuition fee for first sem prior to work? is that okay?

^^you will still be working illegally because you are not a full-time student yet (even if you have already paid for your tuition).
I'd play it safe and stick to the conditions of my visa, but if you want to take the risk .......

yes. But what's the essence of paying the full tution fee for the first sem if you're not gonna be a full time student then?

1. You never have heard of paying for a service in advance of receiving it? That is what your tuition is for, if you didn't pay in advance, the school wouldn't admit you.

Friend you can go ahead and do whatever you wanna do,it seems to me that you dont wanna listen to what others are telling you.
If you start working now before your class begins, is contrary to what is stipulated in relation to your status as an international student.
But basically like somebody said above, its your life and you know what is best for you.
You can can also change your course from a Diploma to certificate without any hassle, but bare in mind that if your are aiming for PR one day, then i will prefer diploma to certificate.
But once again its your choice and your life.

Simple. You only become a full time student when class starts. Paying first sem tuition fee does not give you authority to work. I don't know why this is so hard for you to understand.
