I have an American boyfriend who would like to come to work here in BC in May. He is currently working in the Tourism and Hospitality industry. He does not have any special certifications or degrees. What steps are needed to get a work permit for him?

First he'll need to find an employer in Canada who is willing to hire him. That employer will then need to obtain an approved LMO (labour market opinion) to request approval to hire your boyfriend. As part of this process, the employer will have to prove that they advertised the role and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the position. If the LMO is approved (not all are), your boyfriend can then go to the border and obtain a work permit.

The hardest part will be finding an employer who is willing to offer him a job and can obtain an approved work permit. Most employers aren't interested in the LMO process since it takes so much time and there's no guarantee of approval.

hi, just want to seek your advice..i applied under federal skilled worker category in 2005, unfortunately, news spread out that application from 2008 and beyond will be returned and that includes us..I can no loger reapply since I'm already 51 yrs. old, I'm now here in Canada on a tourist visa, do you think I can make an appeal and apply for permanent residency under humanitarian cosideration? thanks in advance!:)

Based on the information you have provided - you have zero chance of being approved under H&C. Being too old to apply to immigrate isn't a reason to be approved under H&C. Sorry.
