I am an Indian by nationality. But currently a temporary resident of U.S holding an L1B visa (for past 2 and half years). I had applied for my work permit, through New York Canadaian Consulate, last month. I received my Passport last week with a W-1 Visa stamped. I also received a letter stating my work permit is approved . The letter contains UCI and Document #, Since I am an Indian, I understand that I do require a TRV to enter and work in Canada. In the CIC site it mentions that if you are applying for a work permit you do not have to pay for the TRV and will be issued along with the Work Permit. I had included the application for TRV in my application package. What exactly is W1 visa? Is it a work permit or a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) ? Will I be able to travel to, enter and stay/work in Canada with my current documents?
Thanks in advance!

The W1 in your passport is your TRV. You arrive in Canada with your TRV and your Letter, and the work permit will be issued by Immigration when you arrive.

Hi Manny: Can you please tell me the timeline and location where you applied for your WP? Thanks.

Hey BULEG....I asked FIRST! LOL

Hi Pippin,

I seconded...LOL :)

As I mentioned earlier I applied thru New York Canadian Consulate. Consulate received my application on 26th of June. My W-1 stamping date is 24th July. So roughly a month of processing time. The CIC NY website says a minimum of 30 days to process work permits.
