Hello all!
I have a few questions for a couple I'm trying to get more information for. They are both wanting to immigrate to Canada from the USA. He currently works as a physical therapy aide, so unfortunately his job is not listed under the NOC requirements for applying as a Federal Skilled Worker. I do understand he can apply for a work permit once he gets a job offer letter, then has that letter accepted by Service Canada.
My questions would be:

1. What is the maximum time he would be able to stay in Canada under the work permit?
2. If he stays and works for a specific amount of time, would him and his wife be able to apply for a Permanent Residence Card?

They would like to stay here permanently, so I'm trying to figure out a way they'll be able to do so without worrying they'll have to leave the country once his work permit has expired and can no longer be renewed.

Any advice would be appreciated! :D Thanks for your time.

To secure a work permit, a company has to prove that no one in Canada who applied for the job is appropriate. This is done through advertising and showing govt why Canadians were rejected.
The govt then issues an Labor market opinion which the company gives him in order ot get his work permit at the border.

As a US citizen, he should check if he can come over via nafta program as some occupations are eligible for this.

Re duration - this varies - I believe 2-3 yr is normal.
There are various routes to PR - I recommend researching these secondary as work permit should comes first
