hi there, i currently hold a post graduate work permit which expires in October 2020. i would like to become a permanent resident one day, but will not meet many of the requirements by the expiry date of my work permit, so that is not an option.

i am currently employed and expect to remain so with the same employer until the end of my permit. i think that they would be amenable to helping me get a new permit when the time comes.

what are my options as far as work permits go? and ideally, when should i start applying for them?

thanks for reading

Your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA so that you can then swtich over to a closed work permit. The LMIA process is quite long and involved. So recommend that your employer start the process 8-10 months in advance of your PGWP expiring. Note that many employers aren't willing to go through this process due to the costs involved.
