Hi everyone,
I am a Canadian PR who got married last November and I am currently getting everything together for sponsoring my wife. Is there any provision for my wife to be with me in Canada legally while the sponsorship is being processed, like getting a work permit for example?
The only thing I could think of is having her come here as a visitor and crossing the border into the US every few months so that she doesn't stay past the 6 months allotted to person on a visitors visa.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

I read on the website that the spouse can get an open work permit after the sponsor has been approved.

1. This is only for "in-Canada" spousal applications, where the spouse has received 1st level approval, about 10/11/ months after it is received in Vegreville.
2. It doesn't apply if you are sponsoring your spouse "outside" Canada.
3. So no work permit, unless s/he gets a LMO from an employer in Canada and then applies for a work permit.
